Initially, I had my doubts about the food here. I thought it was a bar first then a restaurant, so the food might be subpar. However, the food here turned out to be very good and I enjoyed it. Of course the main attraction is the huge line of draft beer. They have some really good picks, I recommend Paulaner Hef and the Rogues. It is a cool thing to look at all the taps. Service was good, waitress paid a good amount of attention to us, just to make sure we were doing OK, which we were.

who ate the everything, 10000 times on Saturday, December 1, 2007
For the last few years, the Genki location with highest profits and lowest food costs. (A little insider info for you)
I have a little soft spot for this place, having worked there for 3 years. Cheapest edible sushi in town. Over the years, the menu has remained fairly static, but there are usually a bunch of specials you can get, but you have to ask for them. Best sellers are spicy tuna, garlic ahi, hamachi, chicken karaage. Good for a fast lunch/dinner because the food is right on the belt for you to grab, no ordering needed.

who ate the ahi natto, sushi on Sunday, October 21, 2007
Very small restaurant on Kapahulu. Only gripe is lack of parking. Traditional type Japanese food and sushi. No frills, the food is just good and speaks for itself. I recommend making reservations because the place is like the size of a living room.

who ate the salmon, chirashi on Wednesday, August 22, 2007
Erin (girlfriend and fellow amateur foodie) and I received horrible service here. We were seated and nothing was said to us. Nobody came to greet us or take drink orders. Finally, long after we had selected menu items and closed our menus, a waitress came to take our dinner order. Erin ordered a dinner set (salmon), and I ordered an unagi set. The food came out after a long wait. Erin's food was cold. And her salmon, which was supposed to be shioyaki, was under seasoned and bland. I received the wrong item, a chirashi bowl. The fish was decent, a bit on the tough and stringy side. At this point my blood pressure was through the roof and I wasn't a very fun person to be with, Erin was trying to calm me down. I get pretty critical of restaurants. We finished our glasses of water and were sucking on ice, as we received no refills of water. I will stop writing right now before I pop a blood vessel. No tip for them, they are lucky I decided to pay.

who ate the Lunch special w/ Chester chicken on Thursday, November 29, 2007
I'll be the first to admit that my last experience here was ridiculously horrible. I tend not to go back to places with pooooooor customer service. I seriously waited 5-10 minutes up front before the waitress (who was sitting talking with her friends) decided to get up and help me - where I proceeded to walk out and eat at my favorite restaurant, Dixie Grill.

Fast forward a year and the wait staff is still shabby - it's a shame because the food is actually pretty good; scratch that, really good. I ate the lunch special with the "Chester" chicken which sorta kinda reminded me of a grade-school joke "Chester molester", but I'll save that for another time - I'd love to hear the marketing ploy behind that special. In any case, the chicken was grinds and they gave quite a random assortment of food. Since I ate here on a Thursday, it was a downtown crowd... you know, khakis and aloha shirts abound. Sorta reminds me of a Macy's model fest, but without the models.
