who ate the sushiman's choice on Friday, March 7, 2008
I am not a Sushi enthusiast that tries different places for the search of the finest taste and quality of sushi, but I've been to many restaurants and Sasabune was one of the best sushi experience I've had.
I've heard a lot about the restaurant from sushi lovers, so I decided to try it to unfold the truth about the fame this little "hole in the wall"-like restaurant has. If you want to sit at the sushi bar, you would need to eat dishes the Sushi chef gives with his instruction. I decided to go for the sushi bar It was my first time and I decided to trust the sushi chef's selection. The combination of the sauce, fish, and rice came together as one unique flavor that has everything and more!.. like how Remy from the movie Ratatouille describes.. Even the common sushi like salmon tasted so different.. The fish from all over the world definitely added the richness to its reputation. I was impressed by every single dish served by the chef. Everything including the preparation of sushi, instructions and order of dishes was carefully thought out to satisfy the customer's expectation. Some told me that the size of the fish is relatively small, but it didn't bother me at all. By the end I was way too full to eat anything more. It was a fun experience and I will definitely go back. It is a bit pricey, but strongly recommended.
Recommendation:  " Best on island "

who ate the Omakase on Friday, September 15, 2006
This hidden place off Sout King and Keeaumoku is awesome if you like new age sushi, such as Nobu. To have the best experience, have the chef make you whatever he feels (omakase)...and trust him! I didn't have anything crazy like uni..so don't worry. I had dishes such as yellow tail and toro sashimi with ponzu sauce, Santa Barbara sweet shrimp sushi, and squid stuffed with crab. Each course was extremely tasty, beautifully presented, and fresh! Just be sure to obey their instructions on how to eat the sushi (shoyu or no shoyu, and eat it in one bite)...or risk upsetting the sushi nazi and getting thrown out. All in all a great experience and one of my favorite places.
